Making aloe vera gel at home is as simple as eating a cake. But do you know, that when we cut aloe vera leaf, it leaves a yellow-tinted resin, which is dangerous for kidneys and overall health if added orally used?

I found that many people consume aloe gel by mouth, and some people rub whole leaves on their hair. Remember, extra latex or resin from aloe leaf can harm your skin and can cause skin and scalp irritation. So that’s the reason why I have compiled this whole article.

In this article, you will learn how to make aloe vera gel at home with proper safety, how to use it, and some risks that should be taken.

Required tools and materials.

  • An aloe vera leaf
  • a vegetable peeler or knife
  • One blender
  • One small spoon
  • One airtight container for storage purposes.
  • Vitamin C or E with powered state (optional)

Steps.

Take aloe vera leaves.

In the first step, find a mature aloe vera plant and pick thick and fleshy leaves from it. Make sure the leaf is completely green and not discolored. These types of aloe vera leaves contain a larger amount of gel than others.

Remove yellow-tinted resin.

In the second step, wash the leaves properly and remove all dirt. Then cut the outer leaves of the aloe you finalized and leave it for a few minutes until the yellow-tinted resin is released.

According to the National institute of health, this resin features latex, which can cause irritations to your skin, and its added orally use can even cause kidney failures, stomach problems, and even heart-related issues.

Cut the leaf.

In the third step, take a vegetable peeler or knife and remove the outer thick layer of aloe leaf. Only 2-3 leaves are recommended for a good experience when preparing aloe gel.

Now in the fourth step, take a blender and blend the extracted gel until it becomes smoother. This will ensure the gel has a consistent texture and is suitable for various uses and purposes.

Now add vitamin C or E antioxidants. This is because we prepared a raw aloe gel, not a processed one. So its life will be a maximum of 1-2 weeks.

If you want to extend its life for a few months, vitamin C or E will help you a lot. Remember, an expired aloe vera gel can go bad. Read our article and learn how an expired aloe gel can go bad and how you can know if your gel has expired.

Note: For every ¼ cup (60 ml) of aloe gel, you need 500 mg of powdered vitamin C or 400 international units (IU) of powdered vitamin E.

Store the gel.

In the last step, take an airtight container and fill it with your blended aloe gel to store it safely in your refrigerator. Remember, freezers and refrigerators are the proven ways to keep aloe gel safe and fresh even for extended periods.

How to apply?

You can easily apply aloe vera gel to your face by following our four steps below.

  • First of all, wash your face properly with a mild face wash.
  • Now apply aloe vera gel to your face by using soft circular motions for almost 10 minutes. Make sure to don’t apply too much pressure to your face, as it can harm your skin.
  • After that, leave aloe gel on your face for around 10–15 minutes.
  • Now wash your face with cold water.

Potential risks.

While aloe vera gel has a lot of benefits, from glowing your skin to promoting your hair growth, But the same aloe vera gel also has some disadvantages for a few people.

If you are allergic to onions and garlic, avoid using aloe vera. This is because aloe vera, onions, and garlic fall in the same group, so the people who are allergic to onion and garlic are also allergic to aloe vera. So it can harm their skin and can cause some skin irritations, redness, and so on.

Of course, aloe gel is great for sunburns, acne, fine lines, dark spots, and even blemishes, but its extreme use can also harm and sometimes cause dryness.

And also don’t use aloe gel if you are pregnant or you have diabetes and are already taking medicines. It can lower your sugar level and can even cause a coma.
